West Hartford resident and Co-owner of Paula’s Perennials.
Master Gardner Paula Mooney, a native Finland, developed a passion for perennials when she moved to Connecticut in the mid-70s and started to tackle her overgrown, forested yard. After years of spirited labor, Paula mastered the art of growing and nurturing perennials in a sustainable environment, ultimately creating a blossoming sanctuary in her backyard. A secret oasis off a busy suburban street, the lush perennial borders that surround her house are in continually in bloom from early spring through late fall, and still manage to look interesting and lovely in the coldest winter months.
Paula, who received her Master Gardener Degree from UCONN’s Cooperative Extension System in 1984, quickly gained a reputation for growing the healthiest, most robust plants around. Her garden and plants became so popular that Paula began hosting an annual plant sale for friends and neighbors in the area. Her natural gift for garden design and her simple, organic methods have been a source of inspiration for fellow gardeners, many of whom she has helped develop stunning perennial borders in their own yards.
